GSA publishes the dates month by month and never pairs a pay date with the period it pays, so we joined them. The next GSA deposit after today is Friday, October 9, 2026.

Why GSA Shows 27 Paydays in 2026 and 26 in 2027

GSA's 2026 calendar numbers its pay periods 1 through 27. Pay period 27 ends Saturday, December 26, and GSA lists both its deposit and its official pay date as Thursday, December 31. A normal schedule would put that official date on Wednesday, January 6, 2027.

FedTools count from GSA's 2026 and 2027 payroll calendars.

The count is specific to GSA. NFC's calendar has 26 paydays in 2026, with the last on December 24. A coworker at an NFC agency gets 26 checks this year while you get 27.

If you max out your TSP, the count changes your per-paycheck number. The 2026 elective deferral limit is $24,500, according to the IRS. Spread over 27 paydays, that is about $908 a payday. Spread over 26, it is about $943. Both figures are our arithmetic, so check your own year-to-date contributions before you change an election. We could not find GSA or OPM wording on how health premiums are handled on a 27th paycheck. GSA's payroll office is the place to ask.

Are You Paid by GSA?

Probably not, unless you work at one of the agencies on GSA's customer list. GSA says its payroll office serves "over 18,600 employees, which includes our agency and more than 30 independent agencies or presidential commissions."

The larger names on that list:

The rest are small boards and commissions. NFC, by comparison, pays more than 590,000 employees at more than 156 agencies.

Holiday Shifts in 2026 and 2027

Most pay dates follow the same spacing: the deposit comes the Friday after the period ends, and the official date is the Wednesday after that. GSA prints the dates without stating a rule, so treat that spacing as our reading of the calendar. These are the dates that break it. The last official pay date of each year is pulled forward from the first week of January into December:

Monday holidays such as Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Labor Day and Columbus Day do not move a GSA pay date in either year.

Leave-Year Dates on the GSA Calendar

GSA's pay period numbers do not match the leave year. GSA in effect numbers a period by the year it is paid in, while OPM's leave year runs from the first full pay period in January.

The November date is a scheduling deadline. Excess annual leave has to be scheduled in writing by then to be eligible for restoration if it is later cancelled because of a work emergency or illness. After October 5, 2026, the next GSA deposit is Friday, October 9, with an official pay date of Wednesday, October 14. The one after that is a deposit on Friday, October 23 and an official pay date of Wednesday, October 28.

What is the difference between the EFT pay date and the official pay date?

GSA lists two dates for each pay period. The EFT date is the earlier one, usually a Friday, and it is the date we show as the deposit. The official pay date is usually the following Wednesday. GSA's calendar prints both without defining them.

What happens when a GSA payday falls on a holiday?

The date moves earlier. In 2026 the deposit moves to Thursday for Juneteenth (June 18), Independence Day (July 2) and New Year's Day (December 31), and the official date moves to Tuesday, November 10 for Veterans Day. In 2027 the deposit moves to Thursday, June 17 and Thursday, December 30.

Why does my GSA pay period number not match the leave year?

GSA in effect numbers pay periods by the year they are paid in. The 2026 leave year begins with GSA's pay period 3, and the 2027 leave year begins with GSA's 2027 pay period 2.
